The today as hotel used
building belonged to the supply implementations as well as the coach stable
(now register and museum shop). This still is in major parts the original
economy (farm), on cause of King Ludwig II misplaced from its original
location, the site for building of the castle, and rebuilt at the present
location in the year 1876. The estate contained a living part for employees,
horse stables as well as sub-parking spaces for coaches and sledges at this
time. From here the horses and riders started to lead the king through the
winterly mountains to Neuschwanstein or to the summery dream world of the
Schachen.

After the mysterious death
of King Ludwig II. on June 13th, 1886 in the Starnberger lake the
castles Linderhof, Herrenchiemsee and Neuschwanstein were opened by a
royal decree as of August 1st, 1886 for paying visitors. Until the turn
of the century already more than 65,000 visitors bought every year a
ticket for seeing the castle. Within the year of the opening of the
local train between Murnau and Oberammergau on the occasion of the
Passionsspiele in the year 1900 castle Linderhof had its first great
visitor rush, the statistics count 43,466 guests. The new use of the
formerly rural estate also falls into this time. Already during the
prince regent time the economy was improved to a hotel with restaurant
in order to house and feed the more and more visitors of the castle
plant. After smaller reorganizations in the post-war period the building
1990 was general redeveloped and offers place for 350 guests in the
restaurant and 57 hotel guests since then.
